Your first fun run: from signing up to the finish.

A step-by-step plan for your first running event, from choosing a run to after the finish.

1. Choose a run and a distance

Look for a fun run near you, on a date that suits you and with a distance you can manage. If you can run for half an hour without stopping, 5 km is a good start. A flat course, such as a road race, is easier for a first time than a cross-country race or a trail run.

2. Sign up in time

Many organisers use price steps: the earlier you sign up, the less you pay. For an event through Revena you always see the all-in price, and you sign up without an account. You pay with Bancontact, Wero, card or iDEAL | Wero, directly to the organiser.

After paying, you get your ticket with a QR code in your inbox. If you then turn on the free Revena pass with the same email address, this run counts towards your points.

3. Prepare calmly

In the weeks before, run a few times a week, easily and at a pace where you can still talk. Try the full distance once beforehand. If you have any doubts about your health, ask your doctor for advice.

4. What to bring

  • Shoes you have run in before, not new ones.
  • Clothes for the weather, and something warm for after the finish.
  • Your ticket, in your email or your wallet.
  • Safety pins, if the organiser does not provide them.
  • Something to drink after the run.

5. On the day

Arrive in good time, at least half an hour before the start. Pick up your race number if needed, and pin it to the front of your shirt. The organiser scans your ticket; if you have a Revena pass, that is how you get your points.

Do not start too fast. The first kilometre always feels easier than it is.

6. After the finish

Drink something, eat something and walk it off. If the run is timed, for an event through Revena you get an email as soon as the results are online.

Can you not make it after all?

For every event you can see before signing up whether you can pass your ticket on, switch distance or get your money back. The organiser decides. You pass your ticket on in My Revena. To learn more about the kinds of runs, read Fun run, road race, cross-country or trail.
